28.05.19 SAVAGE MESSIAH – MIRA SLÁMA

NBNL:
How would you describe your music, if you met someone, who doesn’t know Savage Messiah?

Mira Sláma:
Modern Heavy Metal. If you like classic stuff from Metallica and mix it with e.g. Trivium or other modern bands, then you would probably get what we sound like now. You can always find some old influences from bands like Testament, Iron Maiden and others.

NBNL:
Where do you get your inspiration from and what made you pick up the bass guitar back then?

Mira Sláma:
You always get ideas when you pick up your instrument so you just keep jamming and record it when you like it… I picked up the bass because of „Rock in Rio by Iron Maiden“, when I saw that live DVD, I knew I wanted to play the bass.

NBNL:
I’ve noticed there’s always been a change of the members in your band history. You’ve only been in the band for a few years now? Where do you think that’s coming from?

Mira Sláma: I’ve been in the band for over five years now and since that I saw people joining the band and then giving up. It’s hard nowadays and bands struggle… Over the years people change their priorities, start family etc., people just give up. There’s nothing hidden behind it… It’s just hard to be in a metal band in 2019.

NBNL:
You just came back from FULL METAL CRUISE. You were there for the very first time. What was the coolest thing you guys experienced there?

Mira Sláma:
Full Metal Cruise was such an amazing experience. A metal festival on a huge boat, how cool is that? We played the first show on the top deck, where the pool was. It was so windy when we were playing – really a difficult show! The next day we played in the theater inside, which was better because of no wind and we had more time to set up and soundcheck. If you wanna go to any metal cruise, go! It’s AMAZING!

NBNL:
Which is the place you’ve always wanted to play?

Mira Sláma:
Japan! But we were there a few time already, so for me the next place I wanna play is South America. A tour over there must be a great experience and I can’t wait for the first time we get there!

NBNL:
The tour as support of Symphony X has started recently. How’s it going so far?

Mira Sláma:
It’s been great so far. The highlight was definitely the shows in Scandinavia. The people really loved our live shows there and we enjoyed exploring the places. We recorded „Demons“ in Stockholm, so it was cool to bring the album over there.

NBNL:
Next week your new studio album “DEMONS“ will be released, but you have already released three songs. What are the reactions to the new material so far?

Mira Sláma:
All the reactions I’ve seen online and in magazines have been super positive and I’m very confident that this album will do great among the old and new fans. I’m pretty sure it’s our strongest album so far and you’ll definitely hear a lot of songs live from this album.

NBNL:
What does the future hold? What do you want to achieve by the end of the year?

Mira Sláma:
100 shows by the end of the year. It’s hard but we should be close to that number by the end of the year. Also we’ll be coming to Japan for our headline shows, so I can’t wait to go back again.
